Zinc Oxide Tape
Zinc oxide tape is a rigid sports tape used to support joints and restrict movement. Commonly used for strapping thumbs, fingers, wrists, ankles, knees and shoulders, it does not stretch and provides very firm support and protection. Its thin profile also makes it useful for covering blisters, hotspots and areas of rubbing. It’s so closely associated with sport that many sources – particularly in the US – refer to it simply as athletic tape.
Choosing the Right Width of Zinc Oxide Tape
| SIZE | TYPICAL USE |
|---|---|
| 1.25cm | Fingers, hands and toes. Commonly used in climbing, boxing and martial arts. |
| 2.5cm | Buddy taping, tumbs, fingers, hands and wrists, general fixation, and covering small calluses and blisters. A widely used utility width across most sports. |
| 3.8cm | Wrists, knees, shoulders and ankles, as well as larger blisters and calluses. A versatile all-round option for general sports strapping. |
| 5cm | Larger joints and heavier strapping, including some shoulder and knee applications. Often used where more coverage or support is needed. |
