Cohesive Bandage
Cohesive bandage is a soft, stretchable tape that sticks only to itself and not to the skin, hair or clothing. It is used to provide light support and compression for soft tissue injuries, such as mild sprains, while remaining comfortable and easy to remove.
It is quick to apply and easy to adjust, making it a simple, versatile option for general sports first aid use. Cohesive bandage is often used for quick wraps, securing dressings and retaining ice packs. It is also commonly used on animals, as it will not stick to fur.
Choosing the Right Width of Cohesive Bandage
| SIZE | TYPICAL USE |
|---|---|
| 2.5cm | Best for smaller areas such as fingers, thumbs, hands and wrists where more precise application is needed. |
| 5cm | A commonly used, all-round size. Suitable for ankles, wrists, knees and general compression or support. |
| 7.5cm | Provides greater coverage for larger areas such as calves, thighs and upper arms. |
Helpful tip: Cohesive bandage provides light support and compression, but it does not offer the same level of support as some adhesive tapes. If you need firmer support or more restriction of movement, an elastic adhesive bandage or rigid tape may be more suitable.
